From the Top Gear blog:

Here’s something for the proper Top Gear fan — our executive producer Andy Wilman at the Edinburgh Festival talking about the telly show.

It was a Five Live interview with newsreader (and former Star in a Reasonably Priced Car) Kate Silverton, covering searching topics such as secrets to the success of the show and why men like sheds.

At 13 minutes, it’s a decently long interview and is worth listening to. You can download the interview or stream it here:

Porsche Shooting Brake Hoax By TopGear.com America

You may or may not remember that Porsche shooting brake mule video that surfaced on TopGear.com in early July:

It was picked up by various websites, including Jalopnik. Well, turns out it was all a hoax as a sort of going away present from the TopGear.com American editorial staff before they got let go. Pretty damn good (but not perfect) hoax if you ask me.

You can read more about how they did it at the NY Times and Jalopnik.

Well done guys.

Posted August 10th, 2009 at 21:272009-08-10T21:27:24ZF jS, Y \a\t H:i by Viper007Bond in Top Gear, Top Gear America

Just a quick note to say that for a variety of reasons, including Top Gear America not being picked up, the US portal on TopGear.com now redirects to a great new Top Gear website located at BBCAmerica.com. Worth checking out if for no reason other than to see when the next episode of Top Gear airs on BBC America.

On Saturday, Richard Hammond crashed his £110,000 Morgan AeroMax. Luckily he walked away with no injuries.

Not to be outdone, Top Gear Australia host Steve Pizzati rolled his race car two and a half times in a race on Sunday. Luckily he was fine as well though.

Drive more carefully, guys. lol

A Trip Down Memory Lane: Old Top Gear

Ever wonder what Top Gear was like back in the day? No, I’m not talking about it’s reboot in 2002 — I’m talking about the old format. It started out in 1977 as a relatively boring automotive show:

However things really started to pick up in 1988 when Clarkson and his hair joined the show:

Sadly not many rips of old Top Gear exist, although we do have some on our forums. Don’t go in expecting the current format of Top Gear though as you’ll be disappointed.

Top Gear Is NOT DEAD, Stop Over-Analyzing
_____
Posted August 3rd, 2009 at 17:472009-08-03T17:47:12ZF jS, Y \a\t H:i by Viper007Bond in Top Gear

Many people have been over-analyzing the last segment of the latest Top Gear episode and have come to the conclusion that Top Gear is dead. Well it’s not:

Remember that episode of I’m Alan Partridge in which Norfolk’s favourite light broadcaster makes a ‘humourous intro to a song’ which accidentally suggests that the Queen is dead, something he later realises has ‘been taken a bit too literally by one or two listeners… and a newspaper’.

Something similar seems to have happened after the poignant Aston Martin film that closed the current series of Top Gear.

The Twitterers (or, if you’re David Cameron, the Twatterers) have gone nuts with speculation that Jeremy was not forecasting the end of V12 wonders like the Aston; he was prophesising the demise of Top Gear itself.

So, just to clear up once and for all, Top Gear is NOT DEAD. Unless it went in the night and has yet to be discovered by the maid…

Ha! Not really. See you in November.

Now please stop making threads on our forums asking if Top Gear is dead. It’s really annoying.
