Good news for us Top Gear fans: Jeremy Clarkson has reportedly has had his contract extended through 2018. This likely means Top Gear won’t be ending any time soon. Excellent!

It looks like Jeremy was just making stuff up on Twitter. Not surprising really.

A BBC spokeswoman told Jalopnik that “Jan. 23 is neither the studio recording date nor the debut of the new season of Top Gear.”

D’oh.

It will likely be around that time though as that’s when they have started in years past.

UPDATE: As pointed out by some of you, January 23rd isn’t a Sunday. Perhaps this is when they will be filming the episode (normal to film it a few days before) and it will be airing that Sunday, the 26th.

The countdown has begun! Jeremy has tweeted that the new season of Top Gear will be back on January 23rd:

Also word is that the holiday special won’t air until February.

You can buy it on DVD or on Blu-ray off Amazon.co.uk. Unfortunately there’s no sign of it on North America’s Amazon.com.

Clarkson tweeted that the Top Gear Christmas special won’t be airing until February so that means no Top Gear until January or February. :(

Top Gear Renewed For At Least 3 More Years

The Guardian is reporting that Clarkson, Hammond, and May have signed deals that ensures Top Gear will at least be on the air for three more years. Woo hoo! :)

UPDATE: Or not?

UPDATE #2: The contracts seem to be correct — Clarkson may have been referring to something else in the article being wrong.

Top Gear Won’t Return Until January 2013

It looks like we’ll have quite a long wait until the return of Top Gear. In a recent interview with a South African radio show, Clarkson mentioned that Top Gear won’t be returning this year, presumably due to the Olympics. You can listen here — fast-forward to 8:14 for the relevant part:
