Two New T-Shirt Designs!
_____
Posted February 5th, 2012 at 19:50 by Viper007Bond in FG.com Store
Edit Post ]

Forum member and all around awesome guy Blayde (check out his store!) has designed two new shirts for our store!

The first is “Gear Head”. It’s available in both a light and dark style as well as iPhone cases.

The second design is “Mechanical Anti-Theft Systems”, joking that a manual transmission will confuse and stop 9 out of 10 American car thieves.

I’m an American but I’m not going to disagree.

If you like these designs or any of our others, please support the site by buying them! Thanks!

UPDATE: Also available now is a two-pack of our logo as a sticker:

Past T-Shirt Designs Now Available For Purchase
_____

Edit Post ]

At least once a year we have a competition to design some great T-shirts and then take pre-orders for the winning designs. Until now, if you missed the pre-order window then you were out of luck forever.

However we are now happy to announce that nearly all of our past T-shirt designs are now available for purchase from the on-demand printing site RedBubble.

Most of the designs are available in both a light style (for being placed on light colored shirts) and a dark style (for being placed on dark colored shirts). Pick your design and then your shirt color and shirt style including girl-style, long sleeve, or even hoodie!. Prices are a bit more expensive than when we did pre-orders because we were able to order in bulk instead of on-demand when we did that. Future shirt designs will still go through this pre-order process in order to keep shirt prices down.

Yes, The Site Is Semi-Broken

Whoops, it looks like the upgrade to WordPress 3.3 broke some of the unique, hacky functionality that I have written for specifically this site which is causing episode and season pages to not display properly. I’m working on fixing it — stand by. :)

UPDATE: Should be fixed now although it may take a few minutes for the caches to fully clear.

Bad Advertisements

Edit Post ]

Earlier today you may have noticed some bad advertisements running on the site. We were trying out a new ad network called adBrite and it decided to run some spammy ads that when clicked would take you to potentially malicious websites.

While it’s important for us to be able to pay our large server bills, we would never put that ahead of you, our users, or the quality of this site. We apologize for the temporary crap and have once again removed advertisements for the time being until we come up with a better and more reliable solution for paying the bills.

Thanks for your understanding.

As you probably know, Gran Turismo 5 was released recently for the Playstation 3 and features the Top Gear test track in it. For fun, we’ve decided to start our own lap time board. Can you beat the real lap times? Can you beat our lap times? If you’re interested, check out our official thread for rules and details on how to participate. Good luck!

Just In Time For Top Gear America, A Small Site Overhaul
_____
Posted November 21st, 2010 at 23:18 by Viper007Bond in FinalGear.com
Edit Post ]

In preparation for tonight’s premiere of Top Gear America (10/9c on History), we have launched an updated version of FinalGear.com. No, it’s still the same old design that is in need to replacing, but the code behind it has been nearly completely rewritten to provide you with more features and to make it easier for us to manage the site.

First off is native support for HD torrents. They’re no longer just manually stuck below the episode’s description. You can see an example with the latest Top Gear episode. Note the new links.

The big advantage of this is that we now how torrent feeds for specific formats! We still have the standard definition torrent feed which contains the 500MB rips of Top Gear as well as Fifth Gear and Top Gear Australia, but we also have new 720p and 1080i feeds. Now all of you HD lovers can have your Top Gear fix automatically downloaded even if you’re away from the computer.

One thing to note though: since Fifth Gear and Top Gear Australia are only available in SD, you’ll still need to use the SD feed to get those shows. µTorrent has great documentation on their RSS feed feature that should be helpful. The basics of it though is to add both the SD feed and a HD feed to your client and then set up some favorite TV shows to download. For Fifth Gear and Top Gear Australia, select to download the show in PDTV format and for Top Gear, select 720p or 1080i rather than HDTV so that the low resolution versions from the SD feed won’t download. You can also post on our forums if you need help setting it up.

Also new are links to buy seasons of Top Gear on DVD or via digital download from Amazon or iTunes. Doing so helps support the shows and in the case of Amazon, also helps support the site. There’s an example of this at the Top Gear season 13 page.

Lastly thanks to the awesome Blayde, we have some refreshed site images including new Top Gear, Fifth Gear, and Top Gear American show banners to the right.

We hope you enjoy the new features and see you in a few hours for the premiere of Top Gear America!

How To Download Torrents Using Magnet Links
_____
Posted September 30th, 2010 at 22:05 by Viper007Bond in FinalGear.com
Edit Post ]

As you may have noticed, Torrage and ZoinkIT have been down and/or are overloaded. We use these sites to host our .torrent files.

Luckily though you don’t actually need to download a .torrent file in your browser in order to download a torrent. Magnet links provide the same functionality as a .torrent file, but instead the data needed to download the video is acquired using the DHT feature in all modern BitTorrent clients. Infact many sites such as The Pirate Bay have stopped using .torrent files and now exclusively use magnet URLs.

All you need to do to use magnet URIs is make sure your BitTorrent client is associated with them. In µTorrent, you can do that by going to Options → Preferences → General and then pressing the “Associate with magnet URIs” button.

After having done so, you can then click a magnet link and your BitTorrent client will do the rest.

Hope that helps! If not and you’re still having trouble, please post a new reply in this help thread.
