I’ve gotten quite a few e-mails from people asking how to disable the subtitles in 720p HD release of last Sunday’s Top Gear. They are not hard coded into the video image — they are being added by your video player or decoder and are easily disabled.

The first place to check is actually your tray, down by your clock. Look for either “Haali Media Splitter” or “DirectVobSub”. Right-click either one and select no subtitles.

If you don’t have any such icons in your tray, then try right-clicking the playing video in your media player and looking for a subtitle option. All competent players have this option.

And incase anyone is wondering why they’re there, we did not create this rip or add the subtitles to it. However with that said we’ve had many requests for subtitles for the show from many non-native English speakers who have a hard time understanding the British accent. Subtitles are hugely helpful to them and allow them to enjoy the show like you and me. For those of us who don’t like subtitles, then they are easily disabled.
