The Nissan GT-R Is Finally Here

Posted February 25th, 2008 at 21:31 GMT by Viper007Bond in Fifth Gear
Yep, unlike two weeks ago, today is actually the 25th and that means that Fifth Gear had the Nissan GT-R on. However, I’m told it was only on the screen for about 5 minutes, but still, better than nothing.
You can snag the episode right now.
UPDATE: It was indeed only about 5 minutes, but Jason made pretty good use of those 5 minutes. You shouldn’t be disappointed as it’s a fairly good review.

Top Gear Reference In American Newspaper Comic Strip

Posted February 25th, 2008 at 00:32 GMT by Viper007Bond in The Stig, Top Gear
Get Fuzzy is an daily comic strip about a guy, his twisted cat, and his naive dog.
In today’s comic, there was a reference to Top Gear, something that’s quite unusual considering it’s drawn by an American.

Hammond Still Depressed After His Crash And Can’t Park His Car

Posted February 24th, 2008 at 22:27 GMT by Quiky in Richard Hammond, Top Gear
It appears that all was not well during the filming of the last two seasons of Top Gear for Richard Hammond.
Eighteen months after the high-speed crash which almost killed him, Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond has revealed that he still suffers from emotional problems and memory loss.
Also, the Times Online has a nice article entitled “On The Move”.
It’s been a bloody long journey and it’s still going. It’s when I consider how far I’ve come since I was in hospital that I realise there was a lot more to fix than I thought. The swelling has gone down, my brain is as mended as it’s likely to be. Now it seems to be more a case of rewiring itself. That’s assuming I’m sitting here talking to you and I’m not about to wake up in hospital, in some sort of Life on Mars moment . . . Now that was a difficult TV series to watch.

Yet Another “Stig Unmasked?” Post

Posted February 24th, 2008 at 07:13 GMT by Viper007Bond in The Stig, Top Gear
I really hesitated to post this as I personally think it’s a lot better not knowing who the Stig is and that there’s more than one person who plays the Stig. However, I also felt it was important to keep you guys in the loop without giving away “spoilers” to those who don’t want to know.
So, if you’re interested in seeing an alleged photo of (one of) the Stig’s eyes, then check out this thread on our forums.

Adam Carolla Is A Fan Of Top Gear

Posted February 21st, 2008 at 13:04 GMT by Viper007Bond in Adam Carolla, Top Gear
On Wednesday’s episode of The Adam Carolla Show, Adam mentioned that he decided to watch a Tivo’ed rerun episode of “Top Gear, a really cool car show outta England” rather than watching an episode of Dance War where it was announced that he was going to be on Dancing with the Stars.
If you’d like to listen, you can listen can download the segment. The relative part starts at around 12:45 and he actually mentions Top Gear around 13:45.
This is yet another example of Top Gear gaining awareness here in America. Hopefully it leads to more people hearing of our beloved show.

Looks great as always.

No Top Gear On iTunes Probably, At Least Not Original Versions

Posted February 20th, 2008 at 12:01 GMT by Viper007Bond in Top Gear
Turns out Top Gear probably will never be available on iTunes, at least with the music that the show originally aired with. upyourego points out that while the BBC is free to use any music they wish in shows they broadcast on TV in the UK and in limited-time Internet versions, their licensing agreement doesn’t apply to long-term versions.
This is the exact same reason why full seasons of Top Gear aren’t available on DVD, only certain specials and best-of’s are — both with different music.

Top Gear Coming To iTunes?

Posted February 18th, 2008 at 23:47 GMT by Viper007Bond in Top Gear
The Register is reporting that BBC Worldwide is working with Apple to start selling some of their TV shows via iTunes.
This is different from BBC’s iPlayer which allows UK residents to freely download TV shows within 7 days of it’s airdate and then watch it within 30 days from downloading.
However, there’s no word on if international users will be able to buy the shows off iTunes due to things like music licensing (the BBC can use whatever songs they want in their shows, but only for the UK versions) or if Top Gear will even be one of the shows available for purchase.
Stay tuned for more details as we get them.

BMW 135i vs. Cayman + Travis Pastrana On Today’s Fifth Gear

Posted February 18th, 2008 at 21:22 GMT by Viper007Bond in Fifth Gear
In this programme, Tiff and Jason race a pair of top coupes (the new BMW 135i Coupe and the Porsche Cayman); Tom tests a couple of 4×4s on an estate in Scotland; Jonny searches for the ideal car for a 17-year-old; Vicki road tests a pair of hot hatchbacks; and Freestyle Motocross star Travis Pastrana talks about his incredible stunts.
All that and more on today’s Fifth Gear. Enjoy.

Top Gear To Be At Silverstone For Britcar 24 Again Next Year?

Posted February 17th, 2008 at 07:42 GMT by Viper007Bond in Jeremy Clarkson, TG Magazine, Top Gear
In Clarkson’s latest article for Top Gear Magazine, he discusses how racing is growing on him and his experiences at last year’s Britcar 24 endurance race that he participated in.
The last sentence of the article though is what’s really important:
Oh and just in case you think these are the ramblings of a senile old man who thinks he could have been Michael Schumacher if he’d been given the chance, consider this: James May aka, Captain Slow, agrees with every word. Next year, I suspect we may be back.
I hope so because last year’s episode was epic.
