BBC Admits Last Year’s Caravan Fire Was A Stunt

Yeah, this is a week old, but I always forget that not everyone reads our forums and so as a result, I never think to repost stuff onto the front page. So here it is for those that missed it.
If you don’t remember, Top Gear went caravaning last year. Near the end of the episode, Jeremy “accidentally” caught their caravan on fire and then Richard “accidentally” caught their neighbor’s caravan on fire. Well, the Daily Mail has finally blown the blatantly obvious event wide open a whole year later by reporting that the entire event was staged.
Top Gear producers had contacted the brigade several weeks before filming - and paid about £1,000 to have six crew members and an engine on standby for the stunt.
The BBC said that viewers would not have been misled as it was obvious that the sequence was “slapstick” with a “sitcom ending”.
Congratulations Daily Mail, well done.
But on a serious note, it does bring up the subject of what’s real and what’s staged on Top Gear. While the caravan stunt was pretty obviously fake, it may make you reconsider other stunts / races / etc.
