FinalGear.com Meetups Soon! (UK, Frankfurt, Michigan, Australia)

Posted August 30th, 2007 at 10:32 GMT by Viper007Bond in FG.com Meets, Top Gear
We’ve already had a Nürburgring meet back in May, but with Top Gear being at Silverstone early next month, we figured it’s be the perfect opportunity to turn it into an official UK meetup. So, if you’re in the UK and are able to drive to Silverstone sometime between the 7th and 9th of September, please check out and post in this thread on our forums to coordinate meeting up.
We’ll also be having a small meetup at the Frankfurt IAA motorshow sometime between September 15th and 23rd. See the meetup’s thread for details and to input on which weekend.
If you’re near Denver, Michigan on September 29th or 30th, we’ll be be having a meetup at the Flat Rock Speedway for the 24 Hours of LeMons which we have entered a car in. Details can also be found on our forums.
Lastly, for those of you living in or near Melbourne, Australia, an official meetup is currently in the planning stages. Feel free to weigh in on when would be good for you.
Hope to see all of you at one of our meetups!

Team FinalGear In The 24 Hours of Lemons!

Posted August 22nd, 2007 at 00:44 GMT by Quiky in FG.com Forums, FinalGear.com
Yes, thats right, we are in the 24 Hours of Lemons! More specifically, we are in for the Flat Rock Speedway on September 29th/30th. I (Quiky), Serajadeyn, and a few other drivers are in the race with a very fancy / beatup car.
Presenting our… 1993 BMW 525i!

So here is the catch — we are asking for sponsors to help cover some of the car costs like a rollcage, safety belts, fire extinguisher, tires, brakes, traveling cost from MD to Michigan, etc. If you donate, we’ll even stick your name/logo/website name/graphic of choice (non-pornographic please) on the car!
Details can be found on our forums.

Whoops. We switched database servers a day or two ago and missed a change in a configuration file. Everything should be working again. Thanks to those who reported the issue.

Barn Storing Top Gear Stuff Goes Up In Flames Due To Arson

Posted August 15th, 2007 at 10:11 GMT by Viper007Bond in Top Gear
Arsonists torched a barn last Sunday on a farm that was used by the BBC to store Top Gear items.
Half of the outbuilding contained 200 tonnes of grain while the other half was rented by the BBC to store various Top Gear props and equipment.
A spokesman for the BBC said: “Top Gear does use Hill End Farm as a storage facility, but at this stage we have no information as to what, if anything, was destroyed.”
So again, no word as to if anything important got destroyed. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

15000+ People Want Clarkson To Be UK Prime Minister

Posted August 15th, 2007 at 00:00 GMT by Viper007Bond in Jeremy Clarkson
Remember that petition on the official British Prime Minister website from a few months back? Well it’s now up past 15000 signatures. We’re not sure if these people are unhappy with the current administration or if they just like Clarkson, but regardless, it’s still pretty funny.

BBC America To Air Season 8 Of Top Gear!

Posted August 9th, 2007 at 12:37 GMT by Viper007Bond in Top Gear
Currently, the only way to view Top Gear over on this side of the pond is via BBC World which airs “special” 30 minute versions of the show (chopped up, no guest driver, no news, little or no studio bits, etc.).
Well, starting August 20th at 8PM ET, season 8 of Top Gear will begin airing on BBC America in what will probably be full format shows. Based on the schedule listed at the official site, each episode will air for an hour each and feature the star in a reasonably priced car.
Regardless of whether it will be a chopped up version or not though, this only further the exposure of Top Gear here in the States which definitely isn’t a bad thing. Let’s hope this all leads to us getting a Top Gear of our own…
More on our forums.
UPDATE: I’m told that BBC America does infact have commercials, so my guess is they’ll be cutting out the news segment of the show and perhaps a little more. Not the ideal solution, but some Top Gear is better than none, right?
