A Note About Fifth Gear 09×07
_____
Posted May 22nd, 2006 at 16:57 PST by Viper007Bond in Fifth Gear, FinalGear.com

First off, sorry about the site being down for quite a few hours today. The box’s load went through the roof for some reason and eventually required a reboot. Things should now be back to normal.

Now, on to today’s Fifth Gear. Vuk’s brother IM’ed me earlier today:

I haven’t recorded the today’s Fifth Gear, I will record tomorrow’s repeat at midnight.

So yeah, there will a delay of until tomorrow for Vuk’s rip of Fifth Gear. Sorry about that, but to be honest, comon, it’s just Fifth Gear. ;)

As for a scene rip of Fifth Gear, I haven’t seen one be released yet, but I’ll make a news post about it with a link if I see a rip get released before we get Vuk’s rip out for those who can’t wait.

This Week’s Top Gear

Okay, first off, this rip is approximately 425MB. I know I’ve been going back and forth on whether we’d be sticking with 350MB or switching to 425MB, but since last week, Vuk perfected the 425MB format. After viewing the sample clips he made for me of the new format, I can tell you that the extra 75MB is fully worth it. The quality is much better and I think you’ll be very happy with it.

Now, for all of you who are stuck on limited download connections, I really do feel for you. I’m sorry that you’ll have to be downloading the extra 75MB per Top Gear episode, but I can’t hold everyone else back just because a few are stuck on low bandwidth. Again, I really am sorry, but I felt it was still worth it.

Anyway, enough of that talk, go and get Top Gear!

All Torrent Links Should Be Fine Now
_____

All links to torrents should now be valid on the site. It took a lot of editing and reuploading to Mininova, but I think I got them all. However, if you find one that I missed, feel free to click the “report broken download” link found on the bottom of each episode’s page. :)

It’s A Miracle!

Yes, that’s right, me, the laziest person in the world has finally spent a little time to work on this site some more! For the past 16 months or so, the about page only had like “this will be filled in later” in the “About” area. Well, today I finally took the time to write a brief history of the site.

So, if you’ve ever been interested in how this site came about, feel free to go read that page. :)

We’re Back To Using FeedBurner
_____
Posted May 17th, 2006 at 16:05 PST by Viper007Bond in FinalGear.com

The Director of Network Operations from FeedBurner was nice enough to contact me pointing out that FeedBurner doesn’t block any feed reader clients. As a result, I’ve discovered that it was just Azureus’ RSS feed plugin being picky. Seems it doesn’t like the way that I was redirecting to FeedBurner.

So, if you have a feed supporting BitTorrent client, first try this permanent URL that will always point to the feed, no matter what:

http://www.finalgear.com/feed/torrents/rss2/

But if that doesn’t work (say you’re using Azureus), then use the direct URL:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/finalgeartorrents

Questions? Then this thread is still the one to use. :)

Torrent Feed Is Now Locally Hosted
_____
Posted May 16th, 2006 at 18:23 PST by Viper007Bond in FinalGear.com

I’ve known for a while that FeedBurner seems to block the RSS plugin in Azureus and possibly others, so I’ve finally decided to just locally host the feed rather than having FeedBurner mirror it.

However, this means an extra query each time someone scrapes the feed and the last I looked, the feed had 1300 subscribers and since each subscriber refreshes the feed many times a day, it adds up. So, please don’t hammer the feed! 15 minute scrape intervals is plenty, an hour even would probably do. I mean only 2 torrents a week get released, so you don’t need to check the feed every 60 seconds. ;)

If you have any questions, this thread is the one to use. :)

Oh, and for those who didn’t know, add this URL to your BitTorrent client if it supports RSS feeds (uTorrent and Azureus via a plugin do) and it’ll automatically download the latest shows:

http://www.finalgear.com/feed/torrents/rss2/

The 6th Installment of This Fifth Gear Season
_____
Posted May 15th, 2006 at 18:12 PST by Viper007Bond in Fifth Gear

Yep, another new episode of Fifth Gear aired today. Go check it out and then join us on the forum. :)

And apologies for the late release today. We released it basically on time today, but due to a major lack of seeding bandwidth, I held off on announcing the release here on the site until we had some people complete the file. ;)
