Stuck Behind A Traffic Shaper At School?

Posted April 13th, 2006 at 18:31 PST by Viper007Bond in Other

I just thought I’d point out that if you’re at a university or whatever that has traffic shaping (i.e. makes torrents go at about 1 KB/sec), you can get around it and download at pretty much normal speed. Just use uTorrent or Azureus and enable packet encryption. For more details, see this entry in the Azureus wiki.

And if you require any help, please use this thread in our forum.

Mininova & “Torrent Not Found”
_____
Posted April 8th, 2006 at 01:00 PST by Viper007Bond in Fifth Gear, Top Gear

Just a head’s up that the main tracker that’s used on a lot of the Top Gear and Fifth Gear torrents out there had to change it’s IP address last week. While most of the URLs to the tracker updated, one did not, or at least not yet. Since Mininova then determined the tracker to be down for torrents that only had that broken URL, it removed them from the site. That’s the reason for the lot of “torrent not found” errors that you may encounter.

However, from what I hear around the water cooler, replacement torrents should be added to Mininova over the next couple days or so, so keep an eye out.

Google Ads
_____
Posted April 6th, 2006 at 15:59 PST by Viper007Bond in FinalGear.com

Well, I hoped that I’d never need to add ads to this site, but due to increased costs, I’ve decided to. In2Hosting still gives us an AWESOME deal, so many thanks to them, it’s just that we’re growing too large to be hosted completely for free. You can find the ads at the top of the main site, assuming you don’t have them blocked.

Now don’t worry, this site that so many of you love will never ever EVER go to pop-ups, annoying “punch the monkey” ads, etc. I hate them as much as you do. Google ads are non-annoying, so that’s why I went with them. ;)

If you have any complaints or whatever, there is a thread on our forum to do so in. I hope you can understand why I went this route. :)

An Update of Classic Top Gear Episodes And More
_____
Posted April 4th, 2006 at 05:04 PST by Viper007Bond in FinalGear.com, Top Gear

First off, I’d like to apologize for basically sitting on my ass for the past 3 or 4 months and doing next to nothing in terms of the site. I know I’m lazy and a huge procrastinator and I really should spend more time updating this site (for example, someone was kind enough to write up reviews for a lot of the classic Top Gear episodes and I still haven’t added them to the site all of these months later…).

However, with the return of Fifth Gear fast approching, I thought I’d take the time to add some more classic Top Gear episodes that pumesta (a member of our forums) has been ripping for us. Here are the new episodes added to the episode guide:

Also “new” is a best of episode of Top Gear that aired on March 19th. Now of course many of you will probably say “who cares, it’s just old stuff!”, but there was actually new content in it! It featured clips of Jimmy Carr going behind the scenes of the Top Gear studios and interviewing some of the hosts a bit.

However, if you’re like me, you just want to see the new stuff and skip the stuff you’ve seen before. So, thanks to mgkdk, you can download just the new stuff via this torrent! :)

Note: I had trouble playing the best of episode (and the chopped up version) in everything but VLC. Seems the video codec that was used was weird, so if you encounter the same problem as me, just grab VLC. ;)

Tracker Update
_____
Posted April 2nd, 2006 at 04:39 PST by Viper007Bond in Other

Just thought I’d let everyone know that the recent tracker downtimes are due to bigfoot1942 (the tracker’s owner) changing ISPs, DNS switch-over times, and then his new ISP having issues. At the time of this post, all issues seem to have been resolved, but just a head’s up to as what’s going if it goes down on again. No, you are not banned from the tracker or anything like that. Just hang tight and use a client that’ll switch over to the backup tracker meanwhile. ;)

For the official word on the tracker, check out this thread in the forums.
