what was the fastest SUV that Top Gear has ever tested?

Bowler Wildcat, most likely. Second fastest, probably the M5-engined Overfinch Range Rover. Third fastest... Cayenne Turbo S, in Cyprus, a race against a parachutist.

What about the Lamborghini LM002 :p

Clarkson: "Would anyone like to see a cathedral go around our track?"

Um... maybe you should check the figures. The Cayenne Turbo S has 510 HP, which is a bit more than both the Wildcat and the Range Rover (which is heavier, too).

The Cayenne Turbo S goes from 0-62 mph in 5.2 seconds and reached to a top speed of 272 kph - that makes it the fastest (non-tuned) SUV on Earth, full stop. The only one coming close would be the AMG version of the Mercedes M-Class. But of course it's limited to 250 kph...

The Wildcat is made for bad terrain and is very fast there but it's not a car for the road or for race tracks.

If I'm not mistaken, the Cayenne Turbo was never timed on the Top Gear test track, which is odd, I think, but then again the review of it was more than just unfair anyway.

Thinking about it, the current 911 turbo was also never timed on the track, even though Clarkson reviewed it. Odd...

Well, better not to look at Top Gear and search for objectivity ;)

OK, thanks for correcting me. But the Bowler is definitely the faster of the two which have gone around the track, that's for sure. Although the Cayenne Turbo S was probably banned from the TG track because Hamster crashed it in Cyprus.

P.S. I still have to watch S1-3 properly.

thanks! :)

Before this turns into a flame war I think you need to be more specific. What do you mean by fastest? What would you allow as an SUV? Are you just talking about the new Top Gear or can we include old Top Gear? And what do you mean by tested?

yeah I really wouldn't class the wildcat as an SUV!!

Yeh a bit more specific would be nice. I think if you're talking about mass production SUV then i'm guessing it would be the Cayenne.

They did that one bit where Richard raced a man dressed as a squirrel parachuting.

I think that was the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, with 500something HP.
In topspeed, that'll be the fastest one of all. But apparently, according to Fifth Gear a BMW X5 handles better around the track

I first thought of the Mercedes G55 AMG that Hammond tested (S5/E9), but it's 476 hp is eclipsed by the Wildcat and Cayenne. Love the G-Wagon though....

I'm pretty sure they'll test the BMW X6 next season. The stronger X6 has a TWIN TURBO V8. I'm guessing that might beat the Porsche Cayenne. Not sure though.

I was under the impression that the strongest X6 BMW launched was the 414 hp one...it has a V8 I know that much but I haven't heard of any M engines going into that one (yet).
In any case, on the track the Cayenne would be the quickest almost certainly...not the G wagon nor anything else mentioned here would be able to match it.

For the production I think that it is the Cayenne...has the most power for sure. For non production (here I can't remember the name of the vehicle (s) names). I remember one was in the epsisode where Hammond was in Iceland racing some motor powered Kiyak, and the other is where Hammond was in (I think) a modified Land Rover...not sure...I do remember he said "I am a driving god!!!", still makes me laugh today...

Cayenne is faster, G55 is so heavy it needs all that power and torque just to move.

As far as production SUVs goes the Jeep Grand Cherokee is the fastest. They have never tested it on top gear but it has a 6.1 litre 420 HP motor that does 0-60 in 4.8 tests...it has beaten every SUV available in America
